This is a list of the eleven most expensive films made to date. I ended up including eleven in this list instead of ten because three of the films ended up being tied. The money required to make blockbusters these days keeps going up, with increasingly complex special effects and crazy salaries being paid to the actors involved. I guess the audience expects more and more from a film as time goes on and subsequently the film companies need to spend more and more money in order to give the audience what they want. Bear in mind that the figures here do not take into account things like advertising and marketing and so the actual cost of the film may be even higher.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007) $300,000,000

2. Spider-Man 3 (2007) $258,000,000

3. Quantum of Solace (2008) $230,000,000

4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006) $225,000,000

5. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) $210,000,000

6. King Kong (2005) $207,000,000

7. Superman Returns (2006) $204,000,000

8. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) $200,000,000

9. Spider-Man 2 (2004) $200,000,000

10. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) $200,000,000

11. Titanic (1997) $200,000,000

So there you have it. The eleven most expensive films of all time as of 2009. No doubt over the next few years we will see more films that will blow even the biggest of these out of the water in terms of money spent. I am sure you would agree that the amount of money spent in making some of today’s top films is truly staggering.

  • At World’s End was a waste of money if you ask me. The first film was great but At World’s End seemed to go on forever.
