Become More Confident

This article is all about confidence and having confidence in ourselves. Being more confident will improve your life significantly and allow you to get out there and do the things you really want to do. Some people assume that confidence is something we are born with but there is a lot of research that suggests that how we feel about ourselves and the way we act is predominately learned behavior. This means that a great deal of what we perceive about ourselves is actually just how we have learned to think and not directly related to genetic personality traits. Essentially this means that whilst some people are naturally more confident that others, we have much more control over how confident we are than we think.
Everyone on this planet has some level of self doubt and insecurity so it is important to realize that no one is fully confident in themselves. We all have to work on becoming more confident each day and learn to develop our strengths and try to eliminate our weaknesses. Here are some really useful tips that should help you become more confident.
Take pride in yourself
If you don’t take care of your body and personal image then you are inevitably going to be left feeling insecure about yourself. One of the first things to accept is that if you want to feel more confident then you are going to have to start feeling good about yourself and you can’t do that easily if you are out of shape or take no care in your appearance. I am not suggesting that you have to end up looking like a model or bodybuilder but you should certainly exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet free of junk. I can promise you that if you feel good on the inside then your confidence will greatly increase. The more you look after your body the better you are going to feel about yourself. Exercise is one of the best things you can do if you are looking to become more confident and it will give you a sense of self respect that is priceless. I found that after a few years of dedicated weight training I had come to be really proud of my body which gives me a feeling of confidence every day.
It doesn’t matter
Spending your time worrying about the things that you can’t do or that you are no good at is futile. No one is good at everything and the whole purpose of being on this planet is to learn how to get better. Very few people really understand that amount of work that goes into learning skills and becoming successful in a given area. When most people listen to a concert pianist they might say something like “I could never be that great” or “I wish I was that talented”. What most people fail to understand is that no musician is born with the ability to perform at such a level. They spend years and years practicing relentlessly until they become that good. I know many so called gifted musicians that would think nothing of practicing for twelve hours a day. What do you think would happen if you practiced something for twelve hours a day for several years? The same is true of all athletes, rock stars or any other talented person.
It is this dedication which makes these people great more than the natural gift. If you were to put as much work in as the people you admire then you would no doubt find yourself with an equally fantastic talent. Successful people are just people that work harder and smarter than you. We are all equally capable of great achievement so don’t beat yourself up if you can’t do something and start working harder to get better at it. No one ever gets good at anything without hard work and patience.
Give yourself more credit
Sometimes it is much easier to see our flaws than it is our strengths. Take a moment to think about your successes and forget about the things that you can’t do and focus on your good points. There are millions of things that you do really well but don’t give yourself any credit for. Stop worrying about the things you can’t do and thing about the things you can. The things you can’t do well are just things you haven’t learned to do yet.
Think about other people
Sometimes we get so caught up in our own insecurity and self doubt that it can be easy to forget that other people probably feel just as insecure as you do. Instead of focusing on how you feel, go out of your way to compliment other people and make them feel good. Once you start shifting the focus away from yourself you should start to forget about your own problems.
Fake it
If you still have trouble with self confidence then start looking at people who you think are confident and then fake it. Confidence is all in your mind but it is expressed through your body. Look at the body language of someone you think seems confident and listen to the way they talk. If you simply copy the way they act then you will start to naturally become more confident without even realizing it. Pick up on their mannerisms and play around by mimicking them yourself.
I hope these tips help you be more confident. Remember that confidence is something that everyone has to work on and it certainly doesn’t happen overnight. All great speakers, celebrities and business people have to overcome their fears at some stage and no one is really born with supreme confidence. Start your journey to self confidence by looking at yourself in a more positive way. See yourself as someone who strives to learn new things and gets stronger each day.
