Sometimes the easiest way to make ourselves feel better is to blame our problems on other people or circumstances that we cannot control. This article will hopefully help you to alter your thinking and will get you to accept responsibility for your life and day to day successes and failures. Our individual attitude to personal responsibility is something that almost all of us could do with improving. The ability to accept responsibility for our actions is a powerful concept that can make us stronger and better people.

We learn to shift the blame for our problems very early on in our lives and very few people really break away from this “It’s not my fault” mentality. You can see this kind of “blame everyone else” thinking everywhere you look on a day to day basis. Blaming other people for the situations we find ourselves in or for our problems is damaging in that it gives you a way of opting out of working hard or trying your best. As you shift blame for your problems onto everyone else, you are essentially shifting the control over your life onto someone else at the same time. Why would you want to let somebody else have control over your actions, successes and failures? While blaming everyone but yourself for your problems may make you feel better temporarily, it will do you far more harm than good in the long run.

The more you begin to take 100% responsibility for everything that happens to you, the more in control of your life you will feel and the harder you will work to make things happen for the better. A person who accepts full responsibility for everything that happens to them quickly becomes unstoppable as they will always be thinking of how they can improve their situation and what they can do to overcome their problems. When a smart person fails or makes mistakes, they learn their lesson and never repeat that mistake again. Chances are, if you simply brush off all responsibility for a mistake on to someone else, you will never learn your lessons and keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

We all suffer setbacks and disadvantages during our lives and some people may have it easier than you but some may have it much harder. It is not about the situation you are that matters but how you deal with it that will make the most difference. Accepting full control for our actions is a liberating feeling that makes you believe that anything is possible. No one else is going to sit around worrying about how to help you out. It is not the government’s job to help you out, your partner’s, or even your friend’s. The sooner you realize that you are the one who must make things happen, the more quickly you will find a way to get to where you want to be. Everything that happens in your life is accountable to you and only you.

Responsibility is an all or nothing thing and so you can’t opt out and take half responsibility for your life. If you really want to improve your situation then you have to accept 100% responsibility for everything that happens in your life and not just 99%. It is all or nothing. Many studies have proven that the happiest and most successful people are those that take full responsibility for their actions and feel that they have the power to control what happens to them. It takes a brave person to admit to their mistakes and failures, but once you start to take full responsibility for your life you will become stronger and more powerful than you ever imagined.
